George Pal (Pioneer)


George Pal (1908 - 1980) was an American animator and film producer, associated with the science fiction genre. He was nominated for Academy Awards seven consecutive years running and he received an honorary award in 1944.

Pal is the father of Science fiction and fantasy. He also created animations with puppets and produced a children's series called Puppetoons.

Today, his originally produced films have been re-made and made again in both film and series formats. His work has been shaped into the science fiction genre.

George Pal had no particular influences throughout his career. He was mainly influenced by film and film directors of the 1920;s to do with science fiction and fantasy.

He had made five films before 1939 for British company Horlicks Malted Milk. In 1940, he emigrated from Europe, and began work for Paramount Pictures.
